Economic benefits of running Trivalent vs. Hexavalent chromium processes

Most companies have historically changed to trivalent due to the economic benefits and lower running costs. These are summarized as follows:

  • Productivity is much higher from a trivalent chrome process due to the higher efficiency. As much as 25% more components per rack can be plated.
  • Due to the lower amount of metal in the plating solution, trivalent processes are much more economical on drag out.
  • Because there is no special waste treatment required, and metal discharge is lower, trivalent chrome processes off drastically reduced costs to the plater.
  • All trivalent chrome processes offer long anode lifetimes and do not incorporate any toxic lead.
  • The ventilation required is the same as for nickel plating and no toxic defoamers are needed.
